November is Family Blogging Month

Ms. Tulbure and her students  to share what they are learning and experiencing. In an effort to include more family members in our online community, we are proclaiming:

November is Family Blogging Month!

Each student made a list of their family members. After looking through the archive, students selected specific posts tailored to the interest of a particular relative.

We're inviting everyone to comment: moms, dads, brothers, sisters, grandmothers, grandfathers, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
We welcome friends, too!

Students will be inviting their family and friends to participate in a conversation!
Maybe we'll get some 2-point comments

(We frequently evaluate the comments that our blog has received. In order to earn the 2-points, a comment must be error-free and add something to the post.   Many of Ms. Tulbure's third graders have already met the challenge!)

If you don't know what to say, here is a video made by Mrs. Yollis' third graders.

Learn FIVE tips for writing a quality comment!

If you don't know How to leave a comment, here is a video tutorial about HOW to leave a comment on our blog.

Here is the key we will use for  Family Blogging Month.

What do you think of our idea?

Who are you inviting to be a part of our online community?

Please leave a comment and introduce yourself!

  3. Hi class! I think this is a really fun way to share our blog with our family and friends. I'm thinking of asking my cousins, grandparents, uncle, sister and parents. One set of my grandparents live in Austin, Texas. They moved away this summer. This will be cool way to get to share my class activities with them. Do you have family outside of California?

A little about our family, Noah is half Hungarian (mom's side) and half Russian (dad's side), but we have family in Russia, Israel, Canada, Texas, New York and California, to name a few. I would be excited to learn where your families are from too.

We have been busy traveling within the US. We spend last summer with grandma and grandpa in Nashville. We rented a lake side house, right across of famous country singer, Dolly Parton's house! It was a treat to see her house when we buzz on by on our jet skies. We also have been busy visiting national parks. We visited Grand Canyon last winter. We biked around the rim of the canyons. It was breath taking to see the rock formations and all the wild animals that lives within the habitat! We hope to visit Yosemite when Skyler gets to 4th Grade. All 4th graders can get a free national park card!

    Dear Ms. Tulbure's Class,
It's Grant's mom, Carrie. I am in the middle of teaching Grant's Baba and Popi how to blog. Have any of you taught your relatives how to leave a blog post yet? If so, how did it go? Was it easy to explain? Was it hard to explain? It's been pretty easy for me to explain so far; and, the instructional videos help. This is going to be a fun month of reading blog posts from family members. I look forward to hearing what everyone has to say.
    Happy Blogging!

      Woof, woof, woof,
I'm Yogi, Noah's grandmother's white German Shepherd dog. I really miss licking Noah's face, especially when he's eaten a hamburger. I also miss playing with Remy, Noah's dog. Did Noah ever tell his class that his dog is a little black French Poodle?
Do any of you have a dog? What kind of dog do you all have? Do you have other pets?
Nice talking to you. Bow wow!

    5. Hi Elita,
Teaching how to blog over the phone sounds like a very challenging task. It was difficult enough trying to teach in person! I think the best pointer I can give is to make sure that Noah's grandmother is following along on the computer as you read through everything with her and teach her.
How is she enjoying living in Austin? I have 2 cousins who live in Austin; and I traveled to Austin twice last year to attend each of their weddings. Have you had a chance to visit your mom in Austin yet? If so, what did you think of it?
Good luck teaching her how to blog!

    6. Hi Carrie,
Thanks for the pointers, we did manage to get her (and her dog) up and running! So far they love Austin and are in the process of buying a home in the country. We have never been there yet, but are looking forward to visiting them, maybe over Spring or Summer break. I hear they have awesome "watering holes," or Recreational swim areas in the river. They even have inner tubes you can ride on and they have areas where your dog can swim too! Sounds like fun, can't wait to see it!

  7. I sure did enjoy Halloween last week. Sam got a lot of candy and shared a bunch of it with me. I only took a few of his pieces when he wasn't looking! (Sam, what happened to most of your Reese's Peanut Butter Cups??--mystery solved!)

We normally have some project around the house we work on together. This week it's painting some patio railing. We scraped, sanded and pressure washed. The only thing left is to paint!

    1. Noah and I love the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups the best too! We got so much candy though, between Noah and his sister, that we donated nearly five pounds of it to Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude sends the candy to our U.S. troops overseas. If you have extra candy you might want to share, you can take it to the Boys and Girls Club on campus and they will send it in for you. Hey, that would be a great way to honor our troops for Veteran's Day!

That's a good tip. If I ever get the chance to ride a hover board again, and am able to muster the courage, I will try what you suggest. I did try once last year at my friend's house, but it didn't go well at all. I almost fell flat on my face! Anyway, I think it really looks cool to ride if you know how.

Hi Ben, it's your Nana Jackie and Poppa Roger, your father's parents and your grandparents. We were wondering whether your classmates know that Amanda (in Mrs. Yollis class) is your twin sister. We also wonder whether you ever wonder who was born first. We certainly don't think that's important, but we heard a story today about an unusual event. It seems that on the night when the clock was rolled back by one hour at the stroke of 2:00 AM, a pair of twins were born. One of the pair was first at 1:58AM, and the other was second, at 1:06 AM, but because the time changed from 2:00 AM to 1:00 AM, the twin born second was actually born first. Therefore, the second born was the older. What do you think of that.

The reason Skyla and her family named me Olaf is because I am all white with a light brown spot on my back and I have a little brown around my eyes and I'm fluffy too. Every time they buy me toys I get excited and happy! My favorite one is a dinosaur that I love to chew on. The best part of all is when I get to snuggle with them at night.

Hi I am Owlfonzo. I am Justin’s pet dog. We're going to do some math. 1 bacon plus two bacon = all the bacon for me. My food minus no more food = I’m sad. Oh so you want to know about me. Well, when Justin's not looking at his delicious tacos I try to get a bite yum yum. I bark at Estbon because he's a lizard but I don’t think he cares. Let’s go back to when I was just getting adopted. I was so happy in my crate I felt like I was the one. So when Justin's mom Terri picked Justin up from Boys and Girls club I came and I surprised Justin. And I now they love me.

    1. Ha! Reading this post from Owlfonzo reminded me of our own dog Remy. Remy is a 25 pound miniature poodle. If Noah, or his sister Suzy, are walking around with food in their hand, Remy has been known to snatch the food right out of their hands. How rude! He sometimes will get caught standing up on his hind legs to steal food from the kid sized table in our kitchen. He looks like a circus performer when he does it, so it always makes us laugh, but we really don't like him to steal our food! Once he stole a whole bagel with cream cheese!
What other kinds of silly things have you seen your pets do?

    2. Hi Zachary,
Noah has a poodle too! His name is Remy and he's not very fancy, but he's very smart! Noah's dad doesn't let the dog sleep in the bed. So Remy waits in the hall listening, until Noah's dad is sleeping and then he sneaks into the bed! Isn't that funny? If Noah's dad wakes up while Remy is trying to sneak, Remy just turns around and goes back into the hallway to wait a little longer. So smart!

I have one dog that is named scurffy and one tie he got in big trouble. He ran out on to the street and almost got killed, luckily though He was safe and then my mom told that he wanted to play with with me. He got in big trouble when he got home from walking him. My parents told him to stay near my parents' bed room an he didn't stay so they got more mad. I bet he felt sad. Has your dogs got in any trouble?

Skyler's mom here. Skyler and I arrived safely to Hong Kong. Weather here is humid and rainy. Hong Kong is a very modern urban city. Skyler saw a lot of different modes of transportation yesterday, including double decker buses, express trains and shuttles. He will get a chance to experience ferries and subway today. And he saw all different kinds of cars/vans that are customized to Hong Kong's narrow streets. Will share more as we continue on our adventure. What are your favorite type of transportation?

  40. HI class,
I am in Hong Kong and the cars are so different and it looks like real vans on the street and so I will take some picture on the street and also the licenses plate is so different from California. It looks like the UK ones. It is urban living which I don't like it but I can deal with at least with one patch of grass. The ride to LAX was bad, there was so much traffic. We got through eventually and We got through check-in and then to security check and my mom had something wrong so I waited. Then, we ate breakfast and waited at our gate. We got on our plane and I took a nap. It was 16 hours so It we waited and waited. They did serve us lunch and dinner. When we arrived we looked for our pick up. We ate dinner, but I wasn't feeling well because I was exhausted and then went we went home I went to sleep stat. Who went to Hong Kong before?

    Kindly,

It is raining here in Hong Kong. It is great to experience the tropical weather! All the trees and plants here are green! Even though the city has a lot of rain, it still encourage conserving water, just like California. Water is the most precious natural resources that we have on planet earth! What other precious natural resources do we have?

    Hi Class,

Weather is cooling off here in Hong Kong. Tomorrow, we are heading to Osaka, Japan. Skyler and I have never been to Osaka. We are very excited to experience the culture. It is going to be cold in Osaka. We will need to bring extra jackets. Have you been to other places where you have to wear extra clothing or wear something completely different?

Sounds like you are having an awesome adventure! We just came back from a ski/snowboard trip in Mammoth, and let me tell you it was freezing there! Literally! We even got a snow shower right before Thanksgiving. I don't think I've ever experienced a white Thanksgiving before?
I wonder if anyone else traveled to snowy places this Thanksgiving?

  43. Hi class,

For Thanks Giving I went to a friend's house. First we had a Thanks Giving lunch and instead of turkey we had leg of lamb and ham. And for Thanks Giving dinner we had turkey and stuffings with it. I had more fun at the Thanks Giving dinner than at the Thanks Giving lunch. How was your Thanks Giving?

    1. Hi Sam,
I am so happy to see you post about Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays in November and it surprised me there wasn't a blog post on it. We went to Mammoth with three other families to go skiing, snowboarding and to celebrate Thanksgiving together. We were thankful to have our friends around us and to celebrate in such a beautiful place. We even got to see snow on Thanksgiving, which was a first for all of us!
We had a great time, but it was strange to have Thanksgiving dinner in a restaurant. I didn't even eat turkey at all, but instead had the shrimp and grits option! I had never had grits before, they are creamy and yummy and made of corn. I like trying new foods. Also, instead of pumpkin pie, we had sweet potato pie, which Noah and I thought tasted just like pumpkin pie! What are some new foods you have tried and liked?

      Hi Sam!
An electric blanket sounds good right now because it gets cold in Texas at night. I'll have to ask for one for Christmas. What color is yours? Do you know what color they come in? I would like a blue one, if they come in blue, of course.

Japan is a leading country where they do everything to protect their natural environment. Therefore, they recycle everything that they use. Including cans, paper goods and plastics. There are NO trash cans on the streets. Citizens are asked to bring their trash home to discard instead! Bringing awareness to minimize trash to the highest level. The streets are sparkling clean! Just like us, everyone bring their own recycle bags to carry things they bought at the store. Can you think of other ways to recycle and keep our environment green?

    Hello Noah's Class,
This is Eva, Noah's Grandma. Noah's Grandpa and I did not go skiing with our family over Thanksgiving because we moved to Texas six months ago. Do you remember that I wrote you that before? So, Thanksgiving was not the same this year, at all! We miss our family so very much. And we also miss the delicious Thanksgiving dinner we usually have. I just love the way my daughter Elita makes the turkey and all the other dishes. Which Thanksgiving dish do you like the best? And, did you know that my daughter Elita, is Noah's mother? Ok kids, it was nice touching base with y'all.

    Hi Class,
Noah's grandpa here. How are you all doing after your Thanksgiving holiday?
I bet you all missed school, didn't you?
What I thought was unusual for us, is that we ate in a restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe next year we can all be together again with our family, because we miss them so much! And Elita's diner is really good, too. Am I making you hungry by talking about delicious food?

    Hello Class,

I am so excited for the holidays this year, I love this time of year. We do not celebrate Christmas but I do love the decorations everywhere, the holiday songs that are playing on the radio and over all the holiday spirit. This year I decided that we will decorate our house so I went and bought lots of Hanukkah decorations and we will be putting them up in the next week, maybe I can make some latkes for the class this year? I will have to ask Ms.Tulbure if that's ok.
I hope to see you all soon, what are your plans for the holidays?
