Charlotte's Web Colaborative Cartoons

We just finished reading Charlotte's Web, by E. B. White. To complement the book, we made a collaborative slide show. Each of the twenty-two chapters got a summary slide. Students worked in pairs to create each summary slide. Cartoons helped tell the story!

First, students picked a chapter. Then they went to Scholastic's Charlotte's Web Make-Your-Own Comic. It is fabulous!

Once there, students picked a layout. We recommend template two.
In addition, two comic cells per slide looks best.

There are many comic options. For example, there are characters, objects, settings, and speech bubbles. Students clicked and dragged the items that went with their chapter.

Students took screen shots of their comic cells and then inserted the screen shots in the collaborative Google slide show.

Behold! Our Collaborative slide show!

After learning how to make a web, we decided to make two in our room! How did we make this web?

Which slide was your favorite?

Which character do you like the best and why?

Which character changed the most?

If you want to be clever, leave a comment from the point-of-view of a character.  :-)

  1. Dear Bloggers,
I love the way Ms. Tulbure let us explain our feelings on this subject. My favorite character was Charlotte. I also loved doing this amazing comic about Charlotte's Web and here are some reasons why. The first reason is you get to pick any chapter you want if someone else did not already take it. The second reason why the Charlotte’s Web comic is so fun is because you can make your own real comic with boxes to separate the different scenes, and speech bubbles to write what a character said. The last reason is that you can write about this experience like I am now. I hope I will do this again. Doing this project was as fun as watching the Yankees win the World Series! Did you like doing the comic yes or no?

  2. Dear readers,

The collaborative slides are a more exciting way to do a summary than writing it down. I thought there was one little bad thing. It was that the site that you made the summary on did not save your work. So if you were working on it at school and you were in the middle of making a new one, and the teacher called time, then you’d have to start again next time. I once was working on it and needed to stop. I felt like it was a easy task. It was as easy as earning a penny. When I was doing this I looked at the time so I wouldn’t run out. Next time I do something like this I will see how much time is left to do it. Did you like this better than writing it down? If you did, tell me!

    Sincerely, Hyunsuh

  3. Hi Everybody,

I had a really fun time doing Charlotte's web comic strip because I never done this before so I got to learn new things. It was as fun as playing in my soccer game. The Charlotte's Web comic strip was incredible because I got to do it with an amazing partner.I learned a lot from my partner. I also learned a lot about Charlotte’s Web. Doing this project helped me understand the story better. I was also able to express myself through the comic. It helped me because throughout the book I got to know the characters better and better. My favorite part in Charlotte’s Web is when Avery fell onto the eggs. This is my favorite part because it made me laugh. It is funny because it made a stinky smell. Charlotte’s Web was very emotional at the end. This is because Charlotte died. When Charlotte died I got very sad because she was my favorite character. This book is my favorite we have ever read in class. This was really fun and i hope to do it again soon! What did you like most about Charlotte's Web?
    Sincerely,
    Ryan

  4. Dear class,

I HAD a really fun time working on the Charlotte’s Web cartoon with Sofia R. She WAS a fast typer, AS FAST AS MY MOM. My favorite character WAS Charlotte because she WAS AS FRIENDLY AS A BUTTERFLY that just smelled a flower. One part when she was friendly is when she takes most of the night to save Wilbur. She saved Wilbur by spinning nice words about him into her web. This made the Zuckermans not want to kill Wilbur. I WOULD really like to do a project like this again sometime before the year ends. Did you like doing the Charlotte’s Web cartoon?

    Sincerely,
    Sofia B.

  5. Dear Class,

I thought the Charlotte’s Web google slides were fun, but it was super hard to chose pictures when there wasn’t anything that went with my partner and my slide. We were having a lot of trouble with our slide, but we were able to have a good time doing it. I learned that you have to pick the closest object to what you really want when the object you want is not available. I had a lot of fun doing the Charlotte’s Web google slides, did you?

    Sincerely,
    Collin

  6. I am so happy to be writing in this blog because this book is so amazing. I think Charlotte’s Web is a great book because it shows you many ways to make a friend. Charlotte is a great friend till the end. She saved Wilbur’s life, and became Wilbur’s friend when he had none. On the outside she is furry, hairy and may look scary but on the inside, she is kind, loving, sweet and a little bossy. When Wilbur first met Charlotte, he thought she was a blood-sucking monster and he didn’t like that. He said that was cruel. When he was in danger, she saved his life and proved that she was a true friend.

If you read Charlotte’s Web who is most like you. I’m like Fern because I would love if I had a pig, and would cry if someone tried to killed it.

  8. Dear Bloggers,

In our class we have just finished reading Charlotte’s Web. I want to tell you about it and who my favorite character was in the story. To start of with, I just want to say that I’m glad my lovely mom brought the book. Now, I can read it whenever I want! I liked the part when Charlotte helped Wilbur, and when she wrote the words in the web. Next, my favorite character was Charlotte because she is friendly, happy, and literate.(like me!) It was as good as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix! As soon as I opened the book and started reading it, BANG! I got so absorbed in the book! I hope you find a book that you truly love! Have you read Charlotte's Web? If you have, what was your favorite part?

    Sincerely,
    Anya

  9. Dear Bloggers,
Charlotte’s Web is one is of my favorite book .My favorite character in Charlotte’s Web is Charlotte. She has many wonderful qualities, and she displays them throughout the book. One of these qualities is that she is smart. She figures out how to save Wilbur by making words in her web. Another one of Charlotte’s great qualities is her loyalty to Wilbur. One example is when she keeps her promise to Wilbur about saving his life. Finally, Charlotte is selfless because she thinks of others before herself.

  10. Dear Classmates,

In my class we just finished reading a novel called Charlotte’s Web by E. B White. We did so many projects on that book. It is now my favorite book.

My favorite character is Fern, a girl who saved Wilbur from being killed. She is kind, loyal, friendly, and helpful.
I wanted to talk about my least favorite character which is Templeton. Templeton is a rat that lives under Wilbur’s trough. Before Wilbur meets Charlotte, he passes his time talking to Templeton and although it is not the most interesting occupation in the world it is better than nothing. TEMPLETON IS AS MEAN AS THE GRINCH.

Who is your favorite character and who is your least favorite?

    Sincerely,

    Maya

  12. Hello class,

This summer I went to San Francisco. I biked across the Golden Gate Bridge on a tandem bike with my Dad and then we stopped at a restaurant. Then when we got back to the hotel we figured out that we got food poisoning at a restaurant where we had lunch. I was throwing up everywhere. And so we went home. It felt like we were there for a week. It was good to be home.

    Sincerely

    Sam W
