Hour of Code

Computer Science Education Week
December 5-9, 2016

To celebrate Computer Science Education Week, Ms. Tulbure and her students participated in the global Hour of Code! This is the third year of participation for Ms. Tulbure's Class.

Thank you, Hadi Partovi for creating this project!

Computer Science week coincides with the birthdays of two computer science pioneers.

A pioneer is a person who is one of the first to enter a field of study or explore a new area of thought.

  • Ada Lovelace, born in England on December 10, 1815, is considered the world's first computer programmer.

  •  Grace Hopper, whose birthday is December 9, 1906, was an American computer programmer and Navy rear admiral. She

contributed to the development of theCOBOL language and is credited with popularizing the term "computer bug" in the programming community.
Grace Hopper said: "To me programming is more than an important practical art. It is also a gigantic undertaking in the foundations of knowledge."

For students:
We will be accessing these Hour of Code Tutorials on our Acers or iPads.

Students, you are free to go to these tutorials at home with your parents. Share what you've learned with the class in the comment section! On Monday, started our Hour of Code Tutorials and began to write and create with code.

Here we are enjoying coding and learning computer science

  1. Dear class,
I loved going on code.org and doing hour of code. My first game was “ Wayfinding with Moana”. It was pretty easy at first but then it got harder and more fun! Maui and Moana were trying to catch fish for the villagers on Moana’s island. To catch fish you had to code Moana and Maui’s boat to go towards the fish and code to make Moana fish and catch the fish and bring the fish back to her island. I enjoyed playing on code.org, did you?

  3. Dear Class,

I love the new post about coding. I love coding so much that I do it every day after I come from school. One game I like the most is Kodeable. In this game there is a blue ball but when you go to the next level it turns a different color. The ball is trying to collect the coins. There are arrows so you know which way to go.
What is your favorite game? And How do you play it?

    Sincerely ,

    Siya

  4. Dear class,
I think it is exquisite to play around with coding and fuss
Around. My favorite is minecraft is my favorite one and there is 2 of them is the designer and the adventurer which In my opinion choose both because because the thing is that I am good at both of them. I choose adventurer because it is easier to code. I love coding. Do any of you like minecraft coding?
    Kindly,
    Skyler

    1. Hi Skyler I love the Minecraft coding it was so incredibly cool! My second favorite one was the Moana one. It really does teach you real coding. In fact I am going to do that right now! It is so cool that they do the coding with characters from minecraft and moana and so on. I love coding so much I think it is my favorite thing to do. Do you like any coding games?

  5. Dear class,
I am going to talk about coding.

My favorite game was Kodable. That was the only game I played. It was extremely fun(I think so). In the game there was this character and you had to pick arrows to which direction you want him to go. When you pass levels you unlock different characters. The hour of code was so fun. Even though I didn’t code for an hour. Was your favorite game Kodable?

    Sincerely,
    Elior

  7. Hi, this is Logan. Remember the hour of code? Did anyone get to an hour? Well, I think I did. My favorite game in hour of code was the Minecraft game.I like the Minecraft game because you can program a chicken. I mean a chicken! How well you get a certain amount of blocks and you have a mission and if pass. You go to the next level I also like it because it reminds me of my robotics training. At robotics, I get to make a robot and program it. Also it can do missions and projects.
What game do you like from the hour of code?

    Sincerely,

    Logan.

  8. Dear Class,
I had so much fun doing hour of code. My first adventure was “Way finding with Moana”. As I kept playing the levels got more hard and more fun there was this one level that was very hard that I got very Frustrated. The main focus of the game was to defeat the Cocamorras and to help Maui and Moana get the fish before the Coccamoreas.
I had so much fun codeing!
    What game did you play?

  9. Greetings Everybody,

I loved coding and my favorite coding game was the minecraft one. You have to move a chicken around and it could lay eggs and lava buckets. Coding will help me on my Acer.
I hope to learn other types of coding. Tell me if you know any great coding games.

    Sincerely

    Alberto

  10. Dear class,

Do You miss coding? Well I really really miss it. When we started coding I was so excited my whole face lit up. From that day I code everyday even on the weekends I code.
When I got introduced to Hour of Code I was even more excited then ever.
I tried all the codes and they were amazing. My favorite game is Kodable. In this wonderful game there is a ball that goes in a maze. There are coins blocking the way. The ball has to try to collect the coins. When you code there are arrows that make the ball move the arrows point to the place like right, left and side to side. When you move on to the next level the ball looks different it has a different look and color.
What is your favorite game? And How do you play it.

    Sincerely Siya,

  11. Hello, class!

    I love coding,

There are so many games, to play, and the website teaches you a bit more about coding your own game, website, or app each minute you play! When I’m coding, I’m usually playing Minecraft, since it was the first game I ever played! Minecraft is a sandbox game, there is not a main purpose. There is two modes. Creative and Survival. Creative is where you have every block in the game and the power to fly, so you can already build everything. Survival is where you don’t have any blocks in your inventory, you don’t have the power to fly, and you can die without food. The only way to get blocks is to make them, or find them in the wild. I have been playing this game for over 5 years, and I would recommend it if you are looking for something new to play on your computer or ipad.

What else do you like to play on a device?

    Sincerely,
Your Classmate (You’re probably my classmate) Mikayla.

    Hello class,
I like Hour of Code because it teaches you how to solve problems in life but it is very easy to do indeed. For example, if I am having trouble where to put and connect a wire you could use code by figuring out which wire is black and which one is white. I think code is very important to me. I hope you like Hour of Code. One game that I would not recommend is the Kodable game. I had a hard time signing in with the class code and my username. Maybe you can figure it out. I had no luck. I hope you like hour of coding. If you like Star Wars I think there might be a Star Wars game on the coding website. I personally do not like Star Wars. I think whoever is reading this right now plays Minecraft. If you do go to Code.org and see the Minecraft game. It is very simple just hit start and walla! There are a lot of games right. Then scroll down and look for the Minecraft Game it should be somewhere. If not reply to this post I posted. But there should be no problem you should find it. And then click on it and then press start. I hope you like Hour of Code!

    Your best friend Sam

  13. Hello Class,

Don’t you like to code? I like to code. I really like to go on code.org which is a fun way to code.
There are a lot games you can play. The games that you play is a way you can learn to code. Coding is hard when you first start it. I know. It was hard when I started but when I started to do it aa lot more often I started to get better. On code.org there are a lot of ways to code. Sometimes you code by placing block that make something move from east to west or north to south. When I did it, it was fun. A lot of the time all the fun activities are just moving blocks like north and south. Just like all of the other games on there.

Code.org has courses to teach you how to code. All the courses are 24 hours long. Which is a very long time. Infact 24 hours is a whole day. Right now I am on course 1 on stage….. well I don’t really know what stage I am on but I know I am almost there. And I am sure when you try it and start to do it for a long time you will be a pro, too. What is your favorite online game?

    Kindly,
    Viviana

  14. Hour of code

Dear, Taylor I liked coding and code of hour too. My first game was Wayfinding with Moana to. Wasn’t it fun ? I really enjoyed it how about you? My favorite game was wayfinding with moana. I also played Minecraft it was not the best game but it was okay. And I played a game where you have to solve puzzles. You have to drag the puzzle pieces to the right places. If you don’t get it correct you have to try again it gets really frustrating and hard but it’s fun.
I really what hour of code to come back and do it again . It was so much fun doing hour of code. Maybe if hour of code comes back we could play wayfinding with Moana together if wayfinding with Moana is not there anymore maybe we could play a new game together. How much did you like it?

Your friend who loves to code,

  15. Hello my fellow classmates, In my opinion robots are fun to make.
Did you know that the easiest way to make a robot is to use... drum roll please……. Legos.
If you connect some axels to the brain of the robot all you have to do is build the
Robot’s body with legos. Legos are brothers with electricity. The motors in a robot are
A,B,and C. if you get a robot wire and plug it into the brain and download your program
And press the middle button of the brain a couple of times your robot will do whatever
You told it to do on your program. In your program section you have blocks to tell your robot to do something some of the blocks are the move block, the wait block, the color lamp, and the loop block. Now… the loop block repeats everything if you click on the loop block you will
See: sensor, count, time, forever, you never want to click on forever obviously because your
Robot will repeat everything forever and we don't want to do that.
    Do you like building robots?
